Governor of affected Philippines Area needs VM Help

22 12 2006

Scientology Volunteer Ministers from the Church of Scientology Mission in Manila recently met with the governor of the affected area in the Philippines, to find out what he needed and provide help to the people of his area.

One of the primary ways that Scientology Volunteer Ministers have been providing help is via Scientology Assists.

Scientology Assist technology can produce products routinely that
many might consider “miracles”. To the average Scientology Volunteer
Minister though, this is all part of the normal day’s work.

Two Scientology Volunteer Ministers giving assists to children in the evacuation center.

There have been so many miracle stories that have come in from the Scientology Volunteer Minister activities in the Philippines.

Two
young girls they helped were devastated. Having lost both parents in
the typhoon, they were overwhelmed with grief. They calmed down,
stopped crying and both of them experienced some relief. Nothing the Volunteer Minister
could do would bring their parents back, but at least they could now
get on with their own lives, and start caring for themselves and each
other.

In another room the volunteers
helped a whole family that seemed to have given up after their home was
destroyed. It started with an assist to a woman who was clearly very
sad. She was lying listlessly on a mattress on the floor, and told the
volunteer she felt very lonely. After her assist she got off the floor
and started watching the volunteer as he gave an assist to a little
girl nearby. She was so interested that he asked her if she wanted to
learn how to do this too. She was very emphatic when she said she did,
because the child the volunteer had just helped was now giggling and
smiling. And that child was her daughter. The volunteer then taught the
mother and daughter how to use this technique and the daughter gave an
assist to her father. When she began the assist, her father was lying
down and said he couldn’t move. But after his assist he felt much more
energetic and he got up to prove it!

Church of Scientology Melbourne Sends VM’s to Fight Fires

21 12 2006

Australian Scientology Volunteer Minsiters
continue to help the fire fighters in Victoria, where 11 bushfires have burned out more than 1600 square miles (4200 square km) in the state’s northeast. Dry undergrowth from the worst drought experienced in Australia in over a century has contributed to the problem, and with Christmas fast approaching, there is no immediate end in site.

The Australia Institute, an independent think tank, warns that the virulence of these fires comes from climate change, which it warns will “significantly raise the fire danger in
Australia” over the long term.

“Last night the firemen didn’t get off shift until really late because the weather was causing the fire to change direction,” said one of the Volunteer Ministers on the ground.
“They were dog tired. We helped some of them with assists*, and serve them meals and cleaned up afterwards.

“The wind changed and strengthened today and blew the fire towards Heyfield township and the town was put on High Alert, which means they had to decide whether to leave or stay and wait it out,” She went on to say. “They decided to stay. It was as dark
as night and the air was full of ash, plus there was danger of being
injured by embers. So people were advised to stay indoors.”

To help ease the isolation, the Volunteer Ministers have been visiting the businesses and households in the area to find out what help they need, and to make sure they get any supplies or assistance to get them through this disaster.

To contribute to this relief effort, either by volunteering your time or helping to support the volunteers
in the fire zone, contact the Volunteer Ministers Coordinator at the Church of Scientology of Melbourne at melbourne@scientology.net or the Volunteer Ministers Coordinator International at vm@volunteerministers.org

Scientology Mission in the Philippines — Typhoon Utor Response

13 12 2006

Photo

Typhoon Durian has strained the resources of
the country past capacity, with a quarter of a million families
displaced from their homes.

Durian hit late in typhoon season, which
usually ends in December. But if locals had hoped this would be the
last typhoon of the year, they were disappointed when the nation was
blasted by another one today. Although it didn’t cause anywhere near
the level of devastation of Durian, when Typhoon Utor hit today the
country was still trying dig out from the damage caused by the earlier
storm.

There is a small Scientology mission in
Manila but they do not have the resources to cope with the magnitude of
help that is needed. Those who can leave for the Philippines to join
the Scientology Disaster Relief Team are urged to contact the
International Scientology Volunteer Ministers Coordinator
or the VM
coordinator at their local Scientology church or mission.
